Eagles launch PR Campaign as AFL prepares to act
In behaviour typical of the Club, the West Coast Eagles will be launching a public relations campaign in the week preceding the AFL Commission meeting. Following the release of the Gillard report to the AFL Commission, West Coast Chairman Mark Barnaba has replied to Andrew Demetriou. While guarded in his comments, Demetriou suggested to the press that it would be in the troubled club best interests to reply to the report before the Commission discuss sanctions at their March 14 meeting.
The advertisement campaign features former "clean' players such as Dean Kemp and even former Fremantle Chairman of selectors Ross Glendinning. Current day player Darren Glass is also mentioned, along with the community work the Eagles engage in.
It appears the normally aloof and unflappable Eagles hierarchy are seriously worried about the potentially damaging results of the report. The independent report is expected to be a marked contrast to the Eagles own report and is expected to reveal many things previously unreported about the West Coast Eagles culture, and in particular the denial which has plagued the administration for many years.
The advertisement is due to be released on March 9th, five days before the AFL Commission meet.
